Seminole County Sheriff’s Detectives are currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred in the early morning hours on April 28 at the Cabana Live event venue, located at 4380 Carraway Pl., in unincorporated Sanford, that left multiple people injured.
Deputies initially responded to the venue just after midnight to establish an area patrol due to a large crowd, estimated at around 200 individuals. The event was promoted as “No One Leaves Sober” and did not have the required event permit. Concerned about the number of patrons in the establishment, shortly after arrival, Deputies heard multiple gunshots originating from the rear of the establishment, prompting the dispersal of the crowd.
Once Deputies were able to get inside the venue, it was determined an armed security officer for the event successfully apprehended a suspected shooter, identified as 16-year-old Christopher Bouie of Daytona Beach. It was also discovered ten patrons had sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting. As of this date, nine victims had been treated and released from the hospital.
The incident began as a physical altercation between attendees. Bouie pulled out a handgun and fired multiple rounds toward a crowd of people. It was later discovered that there was a second unidentified shooter who returned fire with an additional five rounds. Bouie was arrested on scene and is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center on charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Minor, Use and Display of a Firearm During a Felony, Firing a Weapon on Public Property, and Attempted Homicide. The search continues for the second unidentified gunman. Anyone with information on the second shooter is urged to contact the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office or Crimeline at **TIPS.
“We’re fortunate no one is dead or more people injured,” said Sheriff Lemma, who credited the actions of a security guard as “heroic.” “He tackled this guy from behind, got his weapon, and delivered him to us in handcuffs.”
The promoters had ten armed security guards working the event and had a no-firearms policy for patrons. It’s unclear how the teen charged got in with the handgun, but it will be part of the ongoing investigation.
