Sheriff Dennis Lemma announced 13 suspects have been arrested for their involvement with a January 2023 drive-by shooting that left one person deceased and five others wounded.
On January 16, 2023, at approximately 2:20 a.m., deputies in the area of County Road 46A and Rinehart Road in unincorporated Sanford observed several vehicles speeding and multiple gunshots being fired from a dark colored 4-door passenger vehicle aimed at a Mercedes Benz Sprinter van. The suspect vehicle fled the scene but was later located, and the driver was arrested. The driver of the Sprinter van continued to drive directly to a nearby hospital, where it was discovered six female occupants riding in the van were shot and wounded. Princess Tolliver, 31, of Tallahassee, died as a result of her injuries. The other five victims were treated and eventually released.
The investigation revealed the victims were on the way back from a concert in Sanford when the suspects, traveling in four vehicles, two of which were stolen, opened fire on the van the victims were in. Detectives have determined none of the victims were the shooters’ intended target. The investigation found that the perceived motive for the incident likely stemmed from a dispute involving an entertainer at the concert and the shooters, who believed the performer was a passenger in the van.
Upon further investigation, detectives determined the 11 male suspects are part of an organized criminal street gang. In addition to Murder and Attempted Murder charges, they are also facing numerous additional felony charges, including racketeering (RICO), related to their ongoing criminal activities. Two female suspects were also charged with related offenses. On February 23, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, the Orlando Police Department, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and FBI Safe Streets, all the suspects were arrested.
“While the case is incredibly complicated and the investigative tools and methods used are complex, I want to commend our team here at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, who worked day in and day out to bring justice in this case, hold those responsible accountable, and make our communities safer today,” said Sheriff Dennis Lemma. “We express our deepest condolences to the victims and, in particular, to Princess Tolliver’s family as they continue to grieve her loss. Her murder was the result of the criminal actions of others who demonstrated a total disregard for human life.”
