East Hampton Man Clocked at 105 MPH Tries To Allude The Connecticut State Police

On 3/13/2024, at approximately 8:35 p.m., a Trooper assigned to the CT State Police Traffic Unit was engaged in proactive enforcement efforts in conjunction with the “High Risk Rural Road” initiative, in the area of Route 66 in Marlborough, and observed a pickup truck traveling toward the town of East Hampton.

A vehicle, later identified as a GMC K2500 pickup truck, was observed traveling at a high rate of speed towards the town of East Hampton from the center of Marlborough. The Trooper noted that as the GMC approached vehicles traveling ahead of it, the operator maneuvered into the opposing lane to pass, while being clocked at 105 mph.  The Trooper, who was positioned ahead of the GMC, activated his cruiser’s head/taillights, at which time the operator accelerated, reaching speeds estimated to be in excess of 115 mph. The GMC was then observed passing another vehicle by entering the opposing lane of travel, at the crest of a hill, in a curved section of the roadway, creating a risk of serious physical injury to themself and others.

As the Trooper caught up to the GMC, it abruptly turned into a residential driveway. The operator, later identified as Joshua Secore, DOB: 03/24/1996, of East Hampton, exited the GMC after being directed by the Trooper to remain inside of the vehicle. Believing that Secore was about to flee from the scene on foot, Secore was immediately taken into custody without further incident.

During the course of the investigation, Secore verbally admitted that he was aware that the Trooper was about to initiate a traffic stop and that he purposefully accelerated and entered a driveway in an attempt to elude the Trooper.

Based upon the Trooper’s observations and information obtained during the on-scene investigation, Secore was transported to Troop K in Colchester, where he was processed and charged with the following violations:

C.G.S. 53a-63, Reckless Endangerment in the First Degree

C.G.S. 53a-167(a), Interfering with an Officer

C.G.S. 14-222*, Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Secore was later released on a $5000 non-surety bond, and is scheduled for arraignment at Manchester Superior Court on 04/12/2024.
