Connecticut State Police Investigate Reports of Wrong-Way Driver, Fairfield Man Faces Multiple Charges

On 03/10/2024, at approximately 3:15 a.m., Troopers assigned to Troop G in Bridgeport were dispatched for a report of a wrong-way driver, traveling northbound in the southbound travel lanes in the Westport area.

Responding Troopers located the accused vehicle, a Honda CR-V, in the center median where it had been involved in a collision within a construction pattern in Exit 17. No injuries were reported at the scene.

During their interactions with the operator, identified as Cory Gomes DOB:08/31/2001, of Fairfield, Troopers observed that Gomes’ eyes appeared bloodshot and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from within the vehicle.

Troopers administered Standardized Field Sobriety Tests at the scene, which were not performed to standard. Based on the information obtained during the investigation, Gomes was taken into custody and transported to Troop G, where he was processed and charged with the following violations:

C.G.S. 14-227a, Operating Under the Influence of Drugs and/or Alcohol

C.G.S. 53a-63, Reckless Endangerment

C.G.S. 14-237, Driving the Wrong Way on the Highway

C.G.S. 14-222, Reckless Driving

Gomes was later released on a $2,500 cash/surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Stamford Superior Court, on 04/16/2024.
