On 03/30/2024 at approximately 1:43 a.m., a Trooper assigned to Troop C in Tolland was traveling westbound on I-84 approximately one mile West of Exit 68 in Tolland when they observed a silver Mercedes E350 sedan traveling at a high rate of speed while failing to maintain its lane of travel.
The Trooper clocked the silver Mercedes traveling at speeds exceeding 125 miles per hour and initiated a motor vehicle stop approximately 1/2 a mile before Exit 67 in Vernon.
The operator of the Mercedes was positively identified as Kyler V. Armstrong DOB: 11/08/1994, of East Hartford. During their interactions, the Trooper detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage from within Armstrong’s vehicle and observed that Armstrong was displaying signs of impairment. Armstrong was then asked and agreed to participate in Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, which were not performed to standard. Additionally, Armstrong was unable to provide documentation confirming that his vehicle was properly insured.
Based on the information obtained during the on-scene investigation, Armstrong was taken into custody and transported to Troop C, where he was processed and charged with the following violations:
C.G.S.14-227a, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs and/or Alcohol
C.G.S. 14-222*, Reckless Driving Greater than 85 mph
C.G.S. 14-213b, Operating a Motor Vehicle Without Insurance
C.G.S. 14-236, Failure to Maintain Lane
Armstrong was later released on a $10,000.00 non-surety bond and is scheduled for arraignment at Rockville Superior Court, on 04/17/2024.
