Making sure everyone is treated with dignity and compassion is an important part of being an Arkansas State Police Trooper – especially during the holidays. ASP Corporal Damon Dobson was a shining example of that on Thanksgiving Day when he intercepted a civilian motorist struggling with dementia on Interstate 40.
The family of an elderly gentleman contacted law enforcement for a welfare check that day because they were concerned the man may be disoriented and behind the wheel. A Silver Alert was issued, and Corporal Dobson was able to successfully intercept the man while he was driving near Brinkley in Monroe County.
After approaching the vehicle, Corporal Dobson informed the man, a retired police officer, that his family was worried about him and wanted him to make it safely home. After being gently persuaded, the man agreed to join Corporal Dobson in his patrol unit, and he was safely escorted back to Brinkley to be reunited with his family.
This encounter was recently posted on YouTube and has received numerous positive interactions from the public. One individual messaged ASP to say, “Cpl. Damon Dobson was absolutely brilliant with the retired LEO with dementia. God Bless and protect you guys.”
The kindness and understanding Corporal Dobson exhibited this day is not only a reflection of his character, but a shining example of the positive impact ASP strives to make every day. We are proud to call him one of our own.
