In one of those most ridiculous disciplinary actions, Michigan State Police Trooper Cody Longuski was suspended for 30 days after using his patrol car to ram a wrong-way driver who was under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred in April of 2024, when Longuski encountered the drunk driver traveling the wrong way on a highway, posing a significant danger to other motorists.

Longuski, who has been with the Michigan State Police for 7.5 years, made the split-second decision to use his vehicle to stop the wrong-way driver, preventing what could have been a catastrophic accident. While his actions were aimed at protecting public safety, the Michigan State Police determined that the use of force was excessive and not in line with departmental policies which is completely ridiculous.

The suspension has sparked a debate among the public and law enforcement community. Supporters of Longuski argue that he was simply doing his job of protecting and serving the public, and that the suspension is unwarranted given the circumstances. Critics, however, believe that the use of force was unnecessary and that alternative measures could have been taken to handle the situation.

The incident has also led to legal action, with a civil case filed against Longuski and other involved parties. The case is ongoing, and the outcome remains to be seen. How can a drunk driver driving the wrong way on the road file a lawsuit?

As the debate continues, the Michigan State Police has reiterated its commitment to ensuring that all officers adhere to departmental policies and procedures, while also emphasizing the importance of public safety.

We fully support Trooper Longuski’s action and call on the Michigan State Police to rescind this disciplinary action which is totally unacceptable. Trooper Longuski was doing his job, protecting the public!

  1. It’s not my call but I support this trooper. Flip the coin and imagine the trooper says, ”Self, it’s against departmental policy for me to use my patrol car now to stop this wrong way drunk driver who could kill other citizens, so I’ll just let him go in honor of departmental policy.” I could be wrong but in Arkansas they don’t have this policy.

    1. 100%!!!! MSP stopped all pursuits except violent felonies back in 2024 from the new Colonial hand picked by Radical left Governor Gretchen Whitmore. Arkansas, Georgia, nor Florida would ever have this policy!

  2. Excessive force? We in Michigan have had 4 deaths in the last 3 months caused by wrong way drivers on area freeways! What are they thinking? When the public safety is in jeopardy the police do what they have to do mitigate the threat! MSP officials are way out of line in this matter and I wonder what squeaky wheel they are pacifying now.

  3. The Trooper did the correct action. The people who wrote the policies ahould be removed and be sued for endangering the public with their foolish political agendas.

  4. Where do they find the idiots who make these decisions? I feel horrible for these officers who actually care about public safety as opposed to the rule-makers and their policies! I wouldn’t have this DANGEROUS, THANKLESS job! Just what exactly do these policy-makers deem to be “public safety”? I suppose they prefer a drunk who possibly kills several people and results in huge lawsuits? Or maybe there is a particular politician they are attempting to keep happy? These officers are in as much danger from policy-makers as they are from criminals! Sorry to the powers that be, but you are all way off base on this one. My support lies with those who actually DO THEIR JOB, not those who make policy based on politics or pressure from those who never use their pathetic heads for anything but hat racks! Get over yourselves and put this man back on the job where he belongs! Maybe these powers that be should consider another line of work, perhaps as Walmart greeters?

  5. If the ones who made the policy or enforced it, had a close relative or friend killed by a wrong-way drunk driver, only THEN would they expect action taken. Ha!

  6. What a joke. A mile down the road an accident could have happened. And people could be dead. And the officer would be suspended because he did not stop the offender who was clearly endangering the lives of others.
